Each class has its own rhythm and structure. But an example of a typical day might be:
Your children arrive to find activities set up in the classrooms. Teachers and parents supervise and initiate play, inside the classrooms and outside in our yard until “circle time,” when the children may sing songs, dance, listen to stories or play instruments.
Depending upon class size and student ages, two or three teachers and two or three working parents are on hand to help. After Circle Time the children break for a snack. We serve food “family style” and encourage the children to try everything available, but ultimately let them choose. Snack time allows the children to practice and develop table manners, oral language skills through table conversation and good eating habits. Teachers and parents read stories and initiate games to practice colors/shapes, following directions, counting and more.
In the Pre-k and MWF Classes small group time follows snack time. Teachers plan activities that are developmentally appropriate to further the development of each child’s cognitive, small motor, social/emotional skills, letter recognition, counting, visual memory, and more. We arrange snack groups and change them periodically. This allows our children to experience the unique gifts of each teacher in a smaller group setting.
Play resumes after snack until the closing circle time wraps up the day with singing, reading, and goodbyes. In the Pre-k and MWF Classes, children have science, cooking, zoo phonics, library time and visitors during Exploration Time at 11:30.
